SAMA wishes to inform all licensed banks and exchange shops of the necessity to exercise caution when handling damaged equipment and other possessions affiliated with the bank that are slated for disposal, such as ATMs, point-of-sale devices, computers, imaging devices, and related documents and records, as well as tapes and discs used for imaging or recording and similar items.

In this regard, SAMA would like to emphasize the importance of banks establishing appropriate policies and procedures for the disposal of those devices and their accessories in a manner that ensures the confidentiality of the information recorded on them. Banks should avoid discarding these devices as waste after they are no longer needed, as this may provide an opportunity for tampering with the devices or using them in unauthorized ways. Additionally, the bank reiterates the necessity for local banks and currency exchange shops to adhere to their regulatory responsibilities in handling damaged devices and the information they contain.
