SAMA wishes to inform all licensed banks and exchange shops of the necessity to exercise caution when dealing with damaged devices and other possessions affiliated with the bank that are slated for disposal, such as ATMs, point-of-sale devices, computers, imaging devices, and related documents and records, as well as tapes and discs used for imaging or recording and similar items.
In this regard, SAMA would like to emphasize the importance of banks developing appropriate policies and procedures for the mechanism for the disposal of those devices and their accessories in a manner that ensures the confidentiality of the information recorded on them. Banks should avoid discarding these devices as waste after they are no longer needed, as this may provide an opportunity for tampering with the devices or using them in irregular ways, and also reaffirm the need for local banks and exchange shops to abide by their regulatory responsibility in dealing with damaged devices and the information they contain.
